STAYING TRUE TO YOURSELF

Growing up in a household with a piano was a huge catalyst for Mads Langer's career. He recalls gathering around it to sing with his parents who, in spite of being teachers, never pushed him to pursue an academic career. "They understood that music was meant to be my path in life. I started playing as soon as I could reach the keys on their piano, and I remember that from a very young age people around me would react pretty strongly when I sang. So, I've always known that I was meant to do this." Luckily, Mads' parents were quick to enrol him for piano lessons, and since then there has been no looking back.

The most important thing to Mads is to stay true to his own nature, and he finds himself gravitating towards the kind of people who follow their own intuition and walk through life with courage, discipline, compassion and curiosity. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that Mads is heavily inspired by Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard's views on the human condition while recording an upcoming album about not losing yourself in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. As far as compassion goes, it also makes sense that Mads has been performing at the ECCO Walkathon for the past two years. "Seeing 15,000 people walk the streets of Copenhagen in order to help people who are challenged in one way or another is a beautiful thing and I have really enjoyed both of my concerts at that event."

The Walkathon isn't Mads' only connection to ECCO. While recording his previous album in Los Angeles, he went to a cool shopping mall where he saw a pair of shoes that he really liked. "I looked them up online and found out that they were ECCO shoes from the K9 store. After I visited the store in Copenhagen, I've been following K9 closely as I really think it is an interesting direction they're taking and an add-on to ECCO's profile in general." To Mads, design and music are both means of individual expression. Although stylists are made available, Mads has in recent years found it more convenient to take care of those things himself. "I just feel more true to myself when I'm wearing things from my own wardrobe. And yes, I do have ECCO shoes in my wardrobe that I am also touring with."

"HAD YOU ASKED ME FIVE YEARS AGO WHETHER I WOULD WEAR A PAIR OF ECCO SHOES AT ONE OF MY SHOWS, I WOULD PROBABLY JUST HAVE SMILED AND SAID, 'MAYBE IN 60 YEARS.' HOWEVER, SOME OF MY FAVOURITE SHOES TODAY ARE ECCO SHOES"

"To be quite honest, when I grew up ECCO was a brand that I mainly thought of when I was visiting my grandparents who both loved their ECCO shoes. That being said, it is even more cool that ECCO today has adapted a modern design and yet retained the comfort of a great shoe. Had you asked me five years ago whether I would wear a pair of ECCO shoes at one of my shows, I would probably just have smiled and said, 'maybe in 60 years.' However, some of my favourite shoes today are ECCO shoes."
